Margaret “Honey” Williams
Alongside Dr. Andrew Weil and ethnobotanist Dr.Timothy Plowman, Honey Williams co-founded the BPRA in 1979. Born and raised on the coast of California, ecology and the symbiotic relationship between humans & plants has fascinated her through her life. She received her undergraduate degree in Sociology & Biology, and went on to do her graduate work in Horticulture at Cal Poly Pomona. She worked as a research associate in the genetics department at the University of California at Davis and at the Cetus Corporation in Emeryville, California. She worked at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in the international laboratory for molecular biology of the interferon system.
She served as managing director of the BPRA during its formation, and hosted the very first BPRA board meeting at her ranch house in central California. She has been involved with the Center for Integrative Medicine since its inception, and served on the Board of Directors. A pioneer in the tech industry, in the early nineteen eighties she was the vice president for Lifetree Software, Inc., the creators of Volkswriter, the first word processor for the IBM PC. She makes her home on the rugged Big Sur coast, and is passionate about community activism, land stewardship, and conservation. She is an avid and lifelong gardener.
